As I said in Garden Update: Oct. 23, 2020, today was full of planting. I put the broccoli, cauliflower, Brussels sprouts, cabbage, arugula, chard and spinach in the beds. Hopefully they will be happier in the compost like the other plants. I also put in some seeds for lettuces, and second plantings of carrots, beets, turnips and radishes.

Now that I have a way to easily start seeds, I thought it would be a good idea to start some backups to what I just transplanted, plus extras of things that did not do so well.

The beets and turnips are coming along nicely. There are a couple of spots that have not yet germinated, but that’s to be expected. They will pop up soon enough and fill in the row.

In the seed rack, the garlic chives and basil have really popped up.

More beets and turnips are popping up in the raised bed. We have germination from all varieties.

The whispy first leaves (Cotyledons) are emerging on the dill. These look so delicate but they grow int such a hardy plant.

Late yesterday I had some time to build the trellis for the snow peas. This is made out of bamboo lashed together with garden twine. I put a string about every 12” for the vines to latch onto as they begin their climb. The variety I planted (Melting Sugar) should reach about 4 feet high.
