As I said in Garden Update: Oct. 23, 2020, today was full of planting. I put the broccoli, cauliflower, Brussels sprouts, cabbage, arugula, chard and spinach in the beds. Hopefully they will be happier in the compost like the other plants. I also put in some seeds for lettuces, and second plantings of carrots, beets, turnips and radishes.

Now that I have a way to easily start seeds, I thought it would be a good idea to start some backups to what I just transplanted, plus extras of things that did not do so well.

The seeds started in the soil blocks are germinating well. We’re seeing action from everything (brassicas, spinach, chard, lettuce). The last couple of days have been cloudy but the sun is out today. Just in time for these seedlings to get going.

The outdoor seed starting station is performing admirably. It’s great to finally have a dedicated space to get transplants going without taking up the kitchen table. The last couple of days have been cloudy so I haven’t been able to evaluate the usefulness of the shade cloth. We’ll see how it performs now that things have cleared up.
