On the seed starting rack, the heat has been brutal on the lettuce. I maybe should have waited until cooler weather to start those.

Things are looking much better in the raised beds. Green beans are coming in full force! Hopefully that will continue for a couple of more weeks and we can have plenty of seeds for next spring.

And finally, the carrots and parsnips are looking happy. It’s not going to end up with perfect germination, but I can’t complain considering the heat and lack of rain.

Not much to update today. The green beans have started to set a good number of pods. These are the healthiest plants I’ve ever had thanks to the 6” of compost.

Over in the root crop bed, the beets seem pretty happy. Some of the bare spots are starting to fill in.

The shelling peas are really taking off. These are fun to watch. Sometimes the shoots will lift the seed (the pea) out of the soil. It can look a little bizarre.

Becca started several nasturtiums last weekend. These are versatile plants. The flowers and leaves are edible, and it acts as a “trap” plant for harmful insects. These are just starting to grow their distinctive round leaves.

Finally, something I haven’t featured in these updates. You’ve likely seen them in other pictures, but here are some Blue Lake 47 green beans. The pandemic has hit the seed companies pretty hard and I haven’t been able to find more seed for our favorite bush bean. Here I took the last remaining seeds and am growing a couple of plants for seed to use in the spring. Fingers crossed that I can get a decent batch before our first frost. The first bean has just started growing.
